Through Alpine Springs to the High Ridges of Prevalla

Starting from the popular resort village of Prevalla in Prizren, this 8.29 mile (13.3 km) out-and-back trail offers one of the most rewarding mountain ascents in Kosovo's Šar Mountains (Šar Planina). Reaching a max elevation of 8,446 feet (2,574 m) at Konjushka Peak, the route traverses lush valleys, clean freshwater springs, boulder-covered fields, and border summits overlooking North Macedonia.

The initial leg follows the course of the upper Lumbardhi River along well-marked paths up to the fresh spring headwaters, providing drinkable alpine water. Past the spring, path markings become sparse as the trail weaves across rocky boulder fields toward Konjushka Lake (also known as Malo Jažinačko Lake) nestled at 7,890 ft. From the lake basin, the route ascends to Konjushka Peak and continues along the ridge to Guri i Çarë Peak (Rascepen Kamen).

"One of the finest high-altitude ridge hikes in Šar Planina—a perfect Kosovo-side approach to peaks that are notoriously difficult to access from North Macedonia."

Trail Highlights & Essential Tips:

  • Prevalla Trailhead Parking: Free vehicle parking available along the dirt road near the start point in Prevalla.
