Prizren Fortress (Kalaja e Prizrenit)
Prizren Fortress: The Crown of the City
A Journey Through Time
The Prizren Fortress, known locally as Kalaja e Prizrenit, is a medieval castle that has stood watch over the city for centuries. As one of the most significant cultural heritage sites in Kosovo, it offers a window into the diverse history of the region, from the Byzantine era to the Ottoman period.
The walk up to the fortress is a rewarding experience, leading you through the charming alleys of the Old Town (ShadĂ«rvan). Once at the top, visitors are treated to an unparalleled 360-degree view of Prizren’s red-tiled roofs, numerous minarets, and the majestic peaks of the Sharr Mountains in the distance.
"The best place to watch the sunset in Kosovo, where the city's lights begin to sparkle as the sun dips behind the mountains."
